As community-based pond restoration and cleaning activities gain momentum, Art of Living has taken up a few ponds along OMR, and has completed the first round of cleaning in around 10 ponds. That includes four ponds in Semmenchery, three in Thoraipakkam and two in Sholinganallur and Karapakkam.
In its most recent campaign, volunteers cleaned the Karapakkam Karyam Pond, for the second phase of the project, on 14 October. Volunteers from IIT Madras and Lioness Club Moksha joined the group.
The organization aims to not just clean ponds, but also work towards treating polluted water, desilting of ponds, education, awareness, and tree plantation.
